Last weekend was spent riding support for the Swan Crest 57k back country trail race. A small group of robust runners tackle the 34 mile ridge, with no aid stations, no support, no nothing. As Brad the promoter puts it, make sure you wield a gargantuan can of bear spray. And we encountered plenty of huckleberry rich bear scat along the way.
Robust alpine style riding was the order of the day (which started around 4:30am) though we didn’t hit the dirt till almost 11am. And after 6 cups of 53×11 and a 1 hour shuttle we finally hit the dirt.
…a nice Montana haircut
We couldn’t ask for nicer weather and the tread was moist and ripe as a September plum.
If your looking for “classic” ride tucked away in the little Swan mountains do yourself and your buddy’s a favor and make sure this ride is on your top list.
..Howard, happy 34 and thanks for kicking our ass!
